SUMMARY:NGLCC/IFA presents: Growing Your Business Through Franchising
DESCRIPTION:Join the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce\, the business voice of the LGBT community\, and the International Franchise Association (IFA)\, the world’s largest membership organization for franchisors\, franchisees and franchise suppliers\, as we explore education and growth opportunities through franchising for the LGBT and diverse business owner communities. \nHear from industry leaders\, successful entrepreneurs\, and fellow LGBTBEs about the opportunities to scale your business through the special IFA/NGLCC partnership. \nFranchise businesses operate in hundreds of business lines\, including food and beverage\, automotive\, education\, fitness\, residential services\, senior health services\, salons\, and hotels. The vast majority of these franchise owners are small business owners in every sense.  According to industry research firm\, FRANdata\, 75% of all franchise owners have fewer than 20 employees. Franchising is also more diverse than non-franchise businesses: nearly 30% of franchises are minority-owned\, compared to 18% of non-franchised businesses. \n“Owning a franchise allows you to go into business for yourself\, but not by yourself.” A franchise provides franchisees (an individual owner/operator) with a certain level of independence where they can operate their business. A franchise provides an established product or service which may already enjoy widespread brand-name recognition. This gives the franchisee the benefits of a pre-sold customer base which would ordinarily takes years to establish. A franchise increases your chances of business success because you are associating with proven products and methods. Franchises may offer consumers the attraction of a certain level of quality and consistency because it is mandated by the franchise agreement. \nFranchises offer important pre-opening support: site selection\, design\, construction\, financing\, training\, and a grand-opening program \nFranchises offer ongoing support: training\, national and regional advertising\, operating procedures\, operational assistance\, ongoing supervision and management support\, increased spending power\, and access to bulk purchasing.

SUMMARY:Ongoing: AlohaTrace | Crowdsourcing COVID-19 Information
DESCRIPTION:AlohaTrace is a collaborative effort between several public and private organizations in Hawaii to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by crowdsourcing local data on positive cases\, pending test results and those simply exhibiting various symptoms. Answer six anonymous\, confidential questions once a day to help provide near real-time data to research organizations and Hawaii public health and government officials. \nwww.alohatrace.org/ \nAlohaTrace is a community-driven data collection effort relying on Hawaii residents to contribute information focusing on their symptoms\, physical location and movement in the community. We are encouraging users to submit information daily (or as frequently as possible) —whether they’re feeling well or unwell\, so we can send near real-time data to research organizations and Hawaii public health and government officials. \nAlohaTrace is an updated approach to contact tracing – a method proven to be successful in countries like South Korea\, that provides information on who may have been infected\, where they’ve been and who else they’ve been in contact with. While our privacy laws are much stricter in the US\, an anonymous crowdsourced initiative like this can provide the same benefits. \nwww.alohatrace.org/

SUMMARY:November 30 deadline: Submissions for DOH SMG Directory
DESCRIPTION:As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the network of care\, the Hawai’i Department of Health’s (DOH) Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) Workgroup is seeking local SGM medical providers and businesses to include in a new Hawai’i SGM Services Directory\, scheduled for release in early 2021. Providers and businesses may add their information to the directory via a short online form\, which takes about 10 minutes to complete. \nThe SGM Services Directory is being created in response to community requests and is a part of the SGM Workgroup’s commitment to making medical care\, and all services\, more accessible for sexual and gender minorities. Newly completed forms will be accepted through the end of the day on Nov. 30\, 2020\, to be included in the first edition of the services directory. \n“People who are sexual and gender minorities often struggle to access services they need\, particularly medical services\,” said Itai Bradshaw-Lang (they/them)\, project lead for the directory. “This results in poorer health outcomes across the board\, and discomfort or avoidance in non-medical settings. The Services Directory aims to directly address that\, dispelling the fear that we have to hide a core part of ourselves from the people we’re working with by creating a way to find services and providers that are committed to serving our community.” \nOnce completed\, the directory will be available on the SGM Workgroup Resource Hub (https://health.hawaii.gov/sexual-gender-minorities)\, which was launched earlier this year. This is the first DOH website dedicated to resources for SGM (also known as lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer\, and other\, or LGBTQ+) people in Hawai’i\, as well as their loved ones and allies. The site was developed by the DOH SGM Workgroup\, a multi-sector collaboration of various state agencies and community stakeholders\, in partnership with the Harm Reduction Services Branch. \n“Through national and local data\, we understand that culturally appropriate care is essential for sustainable\, meaningful\, and positive health outcomes\,” said Thaddeus Pham (he/him)\, DOH Co-Chair of the SGM Workgroup. “We look to the thoughtful and insightful contributions from our workgroup members and community stakeholders to continue projects like these to better serve our SGM ‘ohana.” \nTo access the medical provider form\, go to: https://sgmservicesdirectory.typeform.com/to/JlJBu3sI \nTo access the business services form\, go to: https://sgmservicesdirectory.typeform.com/to/j6ZSZjJM \nFor more information on the SGM Service Directory\, email Itai Bradshaw-Lang at sgm.services.directory@gmail.com \nFor more information on the DOH SGM Workgroup\, email Thaddeus Pham at thaddeus.pham@doh.hawaii.gov.
