SUMMARY:Nominations deadline: July 25 | The Business of Pride 2021
DESCRIPTION:Pacific Business News is accepting nominations for their 2021 Business of Pride Awards. PBN is looking for LGBTQ leaders\, companies\, and allies in Hawaii who are successful in their careers\, active in their communities\, and advocates for inclusion and equality. \nThe nomination deadline is Sunday\, July 25\, 2021. Click here to make your nominations. \nTo ensure your nomination is as competitive as possible\, please review the following tips: \n1. Ensure that all areas of the nomination are filled out\, and each question is answered.  The judges can only work off of information provided in the nomination packet and/or letters of support- so if something isn’t listed\, it can’t be considered. \n2. For ease\, feel free to use bullet points\, numbers\, etc. instead of full paragraphs. \n3. The best and most successful nominations include facts and figures\, not opinions.  For example\, let us know how a person or company increased revenue that year and provide numbers\, vs. letting us know that they are “great to work with”. \n4. Letters of support are certainly not required\, but can be very helpful to our panel of judges. \n5. Make sure the nomination is submitted on time. \nPlease contact Rose Balagtas at rbalagtas@bizjournals.com or (808)955-8072 with any questions.

SUMMARY:Out Leadership 2021 LGBTQ+ State Business Climate Index
DESCRIPTION:Out Leadership has released its State LGBTQ+ Business Climate Index for 2021 and accompanying U.S. State CEO Business Briefs. \nThe 3rd annual “State LGBTQ+ Business Climate Index” is being published against a backdrop of sustained attacks on transgender and LGBTQ+ rights in state legislatures around the US. \nThe State LGBTQ+ Business Climate Index gives each state a score out of 100 points\, based on 20 carefully selected and nuanced markers assessing LGBT+ people’s lived experiences across 5 broader categories including Legal and Nondiscrimination Protections\, Youth and Family Support\, Political & Religious Attitudes\, Health Access and Safety\, Work Environment and Employment. \nThe 2021 Index results reveal some significant shifts\, driven largely by the landmark win for LGBTQ+ workplace equality (Clayton Vs Bostock) at the Supreme Court. At the same time\, the coordinated legislative pushback against LGBTQ+ rights on a state level have caused some states to fall farther behind when it comes to protecting their LGBTQ+ citizens. \nTo learn more\, and read the report\, click here.

SUMMARY:Rainbow Town Hall: The History and Future of HIV/AIDS in Hawaii
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, June 17th at 6pm for our next Rainbow Town Hall\, an important discussion about the history and future of HIV/AIDS in Hawaii. Physicians\, health care workers and community activists will explore what HIV/AIDS has taught us over the years about addressing social and economic inequalities\, and creating effective responses to ongoing and future health crises. \nPanelists will include: pioneering HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ activist and philanthropist Dr. David McEwan; Community Liaison Nurse Raymond Alejo (HHHRC)\, HIV Community Advocate Keleka Kaneaiakala (State of Hawaii Department of Human Services); Keiva Lei Cadena (Prevention Program Manager\, Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation); and family practitioner and AIDS/HIV specialist Dr. Jennifer Frank. HHHRC’s LGBT Program and Training Manager Kunane Dreier will moderate the discussion. \nThis month marks the 30th Anniversary of the first AIDS Walk in Hawaii\, as well as the 40th anniversary of Dr. David McEwan diagnosing the first AIDS case on the islands. The AIDS epidemic in the 1980s left the LGBTQ+ community with few allies and even fewer options on how to stem its tide. Through the foresight and perseverance of medical practitioners and community activists like Dr. McEwan\, HIV/AIDS is now a preventable and treatable disease. \nAlthough advancements have been made\, the spread of HIV/AIDS is still a very real problem for our community; and awareness is key. Find out what our future looks like in Hawaii as we continue to battle HIV/AIDS; and in the process\, you’ll discover a rich and diverse history that has led us to where we are today. \n  \nThis event is free\, but registration is required. SUMMARY:We’ve Got Your Back! Learn How to Show Up for Your Transgender & Nonbinary Colleagues
DESCRIPTION:This year has tested the resilience and brilliance of transgender and nonbinary people living in the United States. Given the tragic spike in the murders of largely of Black trans women in 2021\, coupled with the surge of anti-trans legislation – over 130 bills introduced in over 30 states – business leaders have a tremendous opportunity to show up for their transgender and nonbinary employees\, and employees with transgender and nonbinary family members. \nAfter all\, research suggests that the future of work will become increasingly nonbinary with 1 in 4 Zoomers expected to transition genders at least once during their lifetime. How then can we prepare leading employers for the future of work? What can be done today to support the majority of business leaders who still need to build gender inclusive policies\, practices\, and systems for their current transgender and nonbinary employees? \nIf you’re interested in exploring these critical questions while enhancing your allyship skills\, then RSVP for NGLCC’s June 16 panel discussion. There you will gain powerful insights from transgender and nonbinary DEI thought leaders including Tatyana Moaton\, Autumn Wylder and Nico Calvo Rosenstone. Together we will gain knowledge\, skills\, and confidence to show up for our transgender and nonbinary colleagues. \nFor more information\, and to register\, click here.
